Plain-language summary of how the Rheality monitoring service works and where responsibility sits. This page is a summary for readers of our demo and does not replace the signed services agreement, which governs any paid engagement.

What Rheality is

Rheality provides independent satellite-based deformation monitoring and anomaly alerts as a decision-support tool. We supply data and analytics about ground and structural movement so that an asset owner and their engineers can make better-informed decisions.

What Rheality is not

Rheality is not the engineer of record, not a safety authority, and not a guarantor of asset safety. We do not certify that any structure is safe, and the legal duty of care for an asset remains at all times with its owner and their responsible engineer. Our alerts are an input to their judgement, not a substitute for it.

Limits of the technology

Satellite radar monitoring has inherent limits. It measures movement along the satellite line of sight only, depends on satellite revisit timing, can lose accuracy over dense vegetation, water, snow or rapidly changing surfaces, and is affected by atmospheric conditions. Rheality does not warrant that the service detects all movement or predicts all failures. It is one line of evidence among several an operator should use.

Responsibility and liability

Decisions about an asset, including any action, inspection, evacuation or shutdown, rest with the asset owner and their qualified engineers. In any paid engagement, Rheality's liability is limited as set out in the signed services agreement, and Rheality does not accept liability for consequential or indirect loss. Rheality carries professional indemnity insurance appropriate to the service.

About this demo

The Brumadinho dashboard on this site is a demonstration. Its displacement figures are reconstructed from a published post-event study (Grebby et al. 2021, Communications Earth & Environment), which found that the dam face showed precursory movement before the 2019 collapse. It illustrates the product and the alerting logic. It is not an original processing result and is not a claim that Rheality can predict any specific failure.
